I have recently moved into a house with an adt alarm system installed not sure what kind this is what it says on the box: Ademco Microtech manufactured to i.s 199:1987 and amendments

The alarm is switched on there is a clear circle on the keyboard and I been told I can use it by entering the code (which I have), but if the system does go off I won’t be able to use it again.

I have rung Adt but they won’t help unless I join up with them at 25.00 a month which I don’t want to do I just want to be able to switch the alarm on and off I don’t want it monitoring I have enough neighbours who will do that for me.

Does anyone know how I can get the master/reset code to do this myself please?

You need to look inside the system control box (_not_ the keypad) to get the model number. The Ademco based units have a lot of common features, but we need specifics.

Please see the FAQ.

Sometimes, generally in commercial installations, there is a tamper switch on the control box door, but it's normally a silent alarm type thing. Since it sounds like you aren't being monitored, it wouldn't matter.

If you were given a code to arm and disarm the system, it should work no matter what, unless it was set up as a "temporary" code (which most people don't know how to do).

Your being in the UK does matter, very much. That's a whole different set of alarm models available overseas that differs radically from the US models. It's even a different website for the manuals and whatnot.
