Hope you can help with this one...my husband installed a wonderful ceiling fan with a light that dims via remote. He also installed two spot lights in the ceiling. Both the spots and ceiling fan are operated from the same switch. Unfortunately we now have problem because we can only operate the ceiling fan is if both spot lights are on. We would like to tie them into the fan light without having to install another switch, that way the spots will also dim with the remote. Any ideas how this can be done? Thanks! :o

It is probably possible, but the details depend on how the cabling is routed.

First, you need to figure out if the fan's remote receiver is capable of handing the total wattage of the spots plus the fan's light. This may be written on the remote receiver (installed up at the ceiling under the bell), or you may need to call the manufacturer. See how many total watts it can control, and check the total wattage of the bulbs in all three fixtures.

If that checks out, then you need to see how the cable is routed. If power comes into the switch box (i.e., there are no white wires connected to the switch), and if the cable from the switch box goes directly to the fan before going on to the other lights, then this can be done with rewiring at the remote receiver. Otherwise, you'll need to reroute the cable to match this condition.

Post back with more information and we'll go from there.
