We just had all our drywall put up, and I didn't think to cover our wood floors  So, there are layers of dust that just won't come up. I tried vacuuming what I could with the shop vac, then going over the floors with a damp sponge mop, but it leaves a chalky film over everything.
Is there another way? SHould I be using something besides water? Or, do I just hve to mop umpteen times to get it up? Our floors are being refinished next week, and I would like to get this dust up before that!!!
Thanks!!!

What kind of finish is on the floor? Hopefully polyurethane as other finishes can be damaged by water. You may want to dust mop using a good hardwood floor treatment then mop using reccomended cleaner for the finish of your floor. If your going to have someone refinish them or refinish them yourself. Dust mop the best you can and mop the best you can and just refinish them. That process will remove the top layer of finish or stain and thus the dust will be gone anyways.

Damp mop with a cup of white vinegar in a gallon of water. Clean a section at a time. Throw an old towel on the floor to dry before moving on to next section.
