Lighting, Light Fixtures, Ceiling and Exhaust Fans - installing chandelier

I just bought a beautiful chandelier and I am DYING to install. However, my chandelier has 1 copper (not covered) wire and another neutral wire. My ceiling wiring has black white, and red wiring. What goes where and how do I have hte copper wiring in place..
Desperate help ...

Is or was there any other fixture mounted at the ceiling?

If the box was prewired for a ceiling fan, and if there is just one wire of each color (no more!), then you'll cap off the black wire in the ceiling and connect the black wire of your chandelier to the red wire in the ceiling. You didn't say so, but your chandelier must have a black wire. It does, right?

Then connect the white wire of your chandelier (does it have a white wire?) to the white wire in the ceiling?

Then connect the bare wire from your chandelier to the bare or green wire in the ceiling (is there one?), or to the ceiling box if it is metal (is it metal?).
