I wanted to replace the light fixture in my kitchen. I removed the old fixture and ready to put the new fixture unfortunately I didnt notice the previous connections. my new light fixture has black and white wires and the wires from the socket in ceiling has white and yellow wire. Am litle confused as I thought white goes with white and black goes with black. Is it safe to put the white wires together and put the black from new light fixture with yellow wire?
thanks a lot for the help.

Do you live in the Chicago or NYC area? If not, where do you live?
If the yellow wire is truly yellow (and not just aged white), and if you live in the Chicago or NYC areas, and if there is just one wire of each color in the ceiling, then connect the fixture black to the ceiling yellow, and the fixture white to ceiling white.
