I came here after I encountered some black goop under old tiling that is covering my wood floors. Everything I read points to asbestos and all the information says leave it alone and don't disturb it...But it is too late I have disturbed it. I tried scraping it, heating it. I'm sure you get the picture. Plus, I swept the area. I am so upset. Not only am I and my family possibly inhaling this stuff but it looks like there is nothing I can do about it. I want the wood floors underneath. What can I do?

Call the EPA and get the name of a licensed asbestos abatement contractor in your area

First of all don't get too worked up. That won't help. Like CDW said call the EPA

First, get it tested. It's pretty cheap. Less than $50.

THEN, if it's asbestos, don't panic. Call an abatement co and they can clean it up.
