Compressor was not turning off on a 30 yr. old Carrier unit. I replaced the contactor and problem was fixed for a week now problem is back. Any ideas?

Do you know if you are getting power at the contactor at all times?

I have to check. This is a old system and the contactor is controlled by 240 volts

There is no voltage at the coil. I get 240 volts at bottom of contactor but none on top I cant figure how is this fan getting power. Anyone ever run into this?

If you pull the Y wire off at the tstat does the outside unit still run??????

This is a old system and the contactor is controlled by 240 volts
I go back that far and then all units worked off 24V for the controls. That is unless you have a Com. set up here

Yes if I take off the Y wire it still runs. The problem now happens abut half the time. There is a transformer in unit that sends out 24 volts to the control relay. I think the control relay is my problem. Is there any way I can test it before buying a new one?

Yes just pull one leg of the 24V to it off and see if it drops out
