Removed ceiling fan w/light. Replacing with chandelier. Wires coming from the ceiling box are: white, black, red and ground.
Wires from chandelier split cord, both copper strand and ground.
I connected the copper strands from fixture separately to black and white, leaving red alone & capped. Light didn't come on. What is the proper connection?

Usually the red is the lighting circuit.
