I just finished writing out a long post recounting my stale-vomit-stained mattress story, but something screwed up and I lost it. So, I'll give you the short version.

I subletted my apartment out. I had palced a large plastic mattress cover on it to protect it. The idiot took it off for some reason and someone puked on it. If someone did try to clean it they did a terrible job. Now, my mattress and my whole room smells of stale vomit. It has got to be cleaned. If not, I have to get a new one...and being a student, my budget doesn't really allow for that.

So, I've been told baking soda, but that wouldn't penetrate the matress at all. I just read vinegar here on the site, but a follow-up said that it doesn't really work. Has anyone used a mattress cleaner? Do they work? WHAT DO I DO?!

Thanks so much,
Ian

enzyme cleaners are going to work the best for this type of stain. Apply to area larger than the visible stain. Let sit 10-15 mins and blot up as much as you can with hottest water available until nothing else transfers to your rags.

BUT my thoughts are this are: a mattress has alot of empty space nothing is going to get down in there and clean the vomit inside of the mattress out. So, if you cant get that out..your odor will remain in one way or another.

Suggests: Another mattress cover to seal the odor in. Replacement or keep up cleaning. Avoid overwetting the mattress during cleaning as this will cause its own problems.

You can get the suggested cleaners from local pet stores, janitoral supply or home improvement.
