I am installing a light fixture that has two switches. You can turn the light on from both switches. The wiring has several white wires and black wires. and one red wire. When connceting the wires I know that black goes to black and white goes to white, but where does the red wire connect to?
I know that this sounds like a stupid question but I could really use some help
thanks

Are these switches on the fixture or are they wall switches? What color and how many wires are in the box that the fixture will mount to? Was there a fixture here previously?

the 2 switches are on the wall, and you can turn the light on from either switch. and the wiring is white, black, and one red wire. there is about 3 white wires bundled together and 3 black wires bundled toether. but only one red wire. The old light fixture had 3 lights in it and was old and shorting out ... and I am replacing it with a flourescent light.

There are many ways to wire this, and it can be quite difficult to figure it out after the fact. That is why it is so critically important when replacing a fixture to simply connect the new one exactly as the old one was connected, without disturbing any other connections.
Is it already too late for that?
If so, this job will be a hundred times more difficult than it had to be. If you don't already have a good multimeter, now is the time to buy one.
