Has anyone installed micro blinds on the inside frame of sliding patio doors? Mine are by Pella. The clearance for the sliding door is barely 3/4". I don't want to use verticals. What other options are there? Any input/advise is greatly appreciated.

I have never done this before but I have been in some homes that have. I sell homes for a living. I don't like to see blinds over sliders because it is quite cumbersome to pull the heavy blinds (they are heavy when there is so much width and length) in order to open the slider each time. You may want to check out something lighter like pleated shades. Lorraine from Florida

Renee11: are you saying, mount the microblind directly onto each door of the sliding door unit? will the 3/4" clearance be enough for the blind to remain in place when that door is slid behind the other one?

Yes, i'm trying to find out if there are micro blinds that would leave enough clearance for the slider to open. It's sort of like the ones you see between the glass, except in my case, they wouldn't be enclosed.

Even though the slats on a micro blinds are 1/2", the head is about 1" deep. There is nothing that will mount in a 3/4" space.

other than verticals, the only choices i know of are draperies (either on a traverse rod or using rings on a decorative rod) or the new sliding panels, like these (http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/ProductsHOM.aspx?DeptID=25437&CatID=28606&CatTyp=DEP&ItemTyp=G&GrpTyp=SIZ&ItemID=0c8c644&ProdSeq=1&Cat=patio+doors&Dep=Window&PCat=Decks+%26+Doors&PCatID=28421&RefPage=ProductList&Sale=&ProdCount=21&RecPtr=&ShowMenu=&TTYP=&ShopBy=0&RefPageName=CategoryAll%252Easpx&RefCatID=28421&RefDeptID=25437) , or they come in a solar mesh variety, also.

you "could" use 2 mini blinds or wood blinds or pleated shades, mounted side by side, mounted above the door, with the headrail hidden underneath a valance. but when they're lowered down, i think they look sort of dorky. but if it's just you there at night, and you don't mind, go for it. when people are there or during the day, they'd be drawn up & hidden.

if you only need privacy and not so much light control, maybe you could just use a window film that skews the view. either an etched style or a wavy glass block effect. you can search online for "window film" to see a lot more styles.
