The last week as I notice it is hot in the house I check the AC and the compressor will be running and the fan inside the house will not be. The line to the coil's is frozen and I turn it off awhile and it will work fine again. While the compressor and fan is working in sync it never freezes. I am unsure whether at times the fan just don't come on with the compressor or the fan shuts off while the compressor is running or what exactly it is doing. I have started to set the FAN switch in the house from AUTO to ON to leave the fan running all the time and as the compressor shuts off the fan will stay on and everything works fine as the compressor turns back on, but when I go back to AUTO eventually during the day the fan will be off and the compressor will run continuosly.
Any ideas on what the problem would be? When I got this house the fan inside the house wouldn't shut off at all a repair man just adjusted the round knob on the switch... and had no problem for about a month, but now it is doing about the opposite.
Thanks

What do you mean. "Round knob on the switch"??
Does the fan make odd noise when it starts up?? Slow start up??

The fan starts right away when it is working. It is a honeywell fan unit and it has an adjustment in the unit that is a round dial you can turn to stop or start the fan that can be set from 50 - 250 to set the fan limit.

Ok, that is the fan limit/control, and that has nothing to do with the a/c.. just heating.
Do you have oil ports on the motor? Has it been oiled if it has oil port..
Belt drive or direct?

It is direct driven without any oil ports.

Have you tried turning the fan from AUTO to ON when it was not runing?
What brand, and model is your furnace?

It is a Honeywell Model # G76-100D2C2.5-5 Furnace.
Have tried switching it to auto and on when fails to work, but still will not start.
The furnace will make a click when you try to turn it on usually make a humming sound when it does not come on. Just have to turn it off awhile to get furnace to start back up.

Ok, sounds like you may need a new motor..
When the fan is off, (when it should be running) does the motor housing (MAKE SURE POWER IS OFF) feel hot to the touch??

Yeah, the motor is hot to the touch.
Thanks for the info, I'll have to have it checked out. Until then I'll just keep the fan turned to on and it always works, making me believe it doesn't kick on sometimes.
Thanks again

I think when you leave the fan on, there is air going over the motor all times to help keep it cool.. Where if the fan shuts off in the auto mode, the motor is hot, and trips out.. it stays out for awhile till it cools down.. so when next time the t-stat call for cooling, the motor may still be hot.
