I recently purchased a Moen shower/tub control fixture for my basement bathroom I'm remodeling. There will be no tub so I figured I'd just plug the port on the control for the tub spout supply.

But then I got to thinking. I would like to install a slide bar showerhead kit in my new shower, and was wondering if there is any way to use the diverter that is built into the control fixture, normally for the tub/shower, for the shower/handheld.

Anybody know if this has ever been done?

Seems like it would work, but I'm having trouble coming up with a way to block the primary port to divert to the secondary. The only thing I can come up with is a shutoff valve installed up on the showerhead, and I guess I would have to plumb main showerhead off of the bottom port, normally for the tub supply, instead of the top port. The top port would then supply the handheld.

Would that work?

I know that they make showerarms with diverters on them, but I was wanting to mount the handheld on an adjacent wall.

Thanks...Randy

Your application should work with no problem; I would contact Moen to see if they feel if your idea will float.

Didn't even think of contacting Moen and asking them, but I will.

Good point.
Thanks Dunbar.
