What should I do? Live in Miami and need AC. It was a little warm in the house so I checked the ac unit. It was frozen over. I cleaned the filter. Turned the unit off to melt down. I will call service tech today but can I turn it back on today? I have animals in the house and it will get to be above 100 degrees.

Thanks
Andrea

You say you "cleaned the filter". What type of filter do you have?? If it's one of those washables throw it out and use the $5.00 pleated ones at H.Depot or Lowes.

For now if you've cleaned it real good let it stay off for a couple hours with just the fan on. Then fire it back up and see how it does. A dirty filter will freeze it up like you've got.

Thank you Mattison. It's not a throw away one. It's a screened one. I just fired it up but I have to leave for work. I put in a call the my AC man and will await his phone call.

Thank you
Andrea

Like Matt said get a good filter. It can be the coil is jammed up with dirt and has to be cleaned good. This happens a lot when people use the screen or washable filters. Then next is low on freon.
