We had a new 5 ft, 20 in. deep regular tub installed today in a 3 wall alcove. The old tub had already been removed. The drain had to be moved up to accomodate the deeper tub. The job took 4 and a half hours and cost $500. Is this typical for this type of install? I didn't realize it would cost that much or take that long. Thanks.

lkloc, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
Hard question to answer. Circumstances change with each situation. Since it was being installed in an existing space it made it difficult to "squeeze" into the exact size space. Moving the drain was another time consumer. Were you present during the installation? Did the installers stay busy or were they talking more than working. Pricewise for the hours, you got a good deal.

I just installed my new tub in a 3 wall alcove.... and while an avid DIYer, am not a pro.... 4 hours is pretty good in my book, considering moving the plumbing, setting and securing the tub (and supports), hooking up plumbing, adjusting the drain system......
