Just had a house built and am installing my own pkg. heat pump. Took HVAC in school but ended up an electrician so I've got a clue on the job at hand. Wanted feedback though since I have found a few units online (new of course) at Smarterway.com Ex: Goodman $1500, Rudd $1900, Aireflo $1800, Rheem $2500, Grandaire $2300, Tempstar $2300. All are 12 seer which will be fine here in S. Central Tenn. Price is an option so of course the Goodman sounds good. Parts availability down the road is important also since I will be doing my own service. All feedback appreciated. THANKS!!

First of all you should be aware of my prejudice against Goodman- a product sold more on price than quality.
However, if you intend to make the install, then here is the question that I would ask.
What is the HSPF rating(heating) for the size system you intend to install for a Goodman and a Rheem?
I would expect a Rheem to cost more than a Goodman. Better HVAC equipment.
My opinion.

Ill say first look at the pay back here from the unit. You say new home. How long will you stay in it. If its 10 years go for the good stuff here for sure. Get a Trane or Rheem unit with a 10 year warranty and with a seer of 17 and a hspf of 10.55 or better. Today a seer of 12 is the bottom
