I have a 2 knob shower setup with stems. The stem ends are rounded out so they dont accept the original style handle any more. I bought some Danco aftermarket handles that utilize some allen screws on an adapter to bite into the stem end and then their shower knob slides over. They dont seem to work that well. Should I try another brand besides Danco for this application, thinking their adapter sedign is better? Perhaps the stem ends needs to be sanded a little more round? I prefer not to have shut the water down in the apartment building to replace the entire stems with new ones. Thanks!!

If the adapter is turning, you may need to file a flat spot for the allen screws to seat on. They may just not be getting enough friction to do their job properly. Good luck.

Building should be designed for branch lines with valves so you can isolate the work.
You need to have new stems so the handles fit properly.
When you shut off the water to the building, you have the perfect time to install valves so you can work on things in the future.
Good luck with your project.

notuboo, I share your DREAM of shut-off valves to tubs and shower units. Haven't seen one yet. Guess the building contractors feel those two valves would add too much to the cost of a house.
