I have a new asian hardwood table with an oak veneer top in a washed bisque finish. There were some small shiny areas and the company sent a rep over.He determined they were rubs from the shipping material and proceeded to spray one area of the table with chemical to take away the shine. Unfortunately, that left a bigger shine in a bigger area. How do I get the shine off without ruining the surface. The table has a matte finish.
Hope you can help me.
Thanks

You need to go back to the store.

Irregularities such as yours should be field repairable - when I worked as service manager for a furniture company I did work like this (adjusting the sheen) on a weekly basis.

The "technician" who came to your house probably sprayed the wrong lacquer on your table. FLAT lacquer (applied on the entire top) should bring the sheen to where you want it and be uniform across the entire top.

Lacquer in various sheens (matte or flat, satin, semigloss and gloss) are standard items of equipment for in-house repair work. It's the store's problem - not yours.

Thanks Geroge. I agree with you. I went back to the store and they sent me another table top..it was horrible. I think I should keep what I have.It is a beautiful table and I am afraid what I get will be worse. Also, I am afraid to let someone they send work on the table top..they don't seem to know what they are doing. The are going to give me a monetary adjustment.
If I get some matte finish spray, can I do just the shiny areas ? What will the matte spray do to the table.
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer me

I would find some #000000 steel wool & rub down the entire top.
That is 6 ought! It is used in furniture factories as the final process in finishing to give a perfect sheen.
I do not know where it can be bought. My own roll has been in my possession for 30 years.
