At first, our 35 inch Zenith SR3587DT (1995)did not have a picture. So, we took the back off the tv and found a loose connection, which we fixed. When we turned it on, we noticed a pink shade in the corners of the tube. Besides the discoloration, the television works fine. Is our picture tube going bad? And how much will it be to repair such a tv?

What you have is a magnetized screen. You can use a 150 watt or so soldering gun for a "Degausing" tool or haul the set in and have it done at the shop. Pull the trigger on the gun about an inch from the front of the tube and slowly back off while going in an ever increasing circle until you are about 4 feet or so from the set and the circle is now the same size as the screen. Quickly, as you release the trigger on the soldering gun turn your back to the set with the gun in front of you. This should "degause" the set. Question? Are there any speakers within four feet of the set? Like your surround center spkr? If not what may have happened is the internal degausing ring that de-magnitizes the set each time it is turned on may have failed. This however is not something a layman can repair and will cost about $100 give or take $50 to fix.
