Hello! Great site! I have a dresser I am refinishing. I have stripped and sanded it, but there are round white stains on the top. I'm not sure what kind they are- I have seen the black kind mentioned here caused by something hot left on it (?) and something wet left on it? Do I have that right? Would I try the bleach method? Anyway, I am hoping to remove the stains so I can just put something clear on it rather than staining. Can someone help? Thanks so much!

wood bleach (oxalic acid) is your best bet. It comes as a powder (usually in 1 lb. boxes) that you mix to a saturate solution in HOT water. Apply and let dry.
Wipe surface down with a wet rag to remove powder residue. More than one application may be necessary.

CAUTION: oxalic acid powder is irritating to the respiratory system. Use a dust mask when working with this material.
