Pretty much as the title says, i have an end table which has a light wood veneer and i'd like to darken it, is there any special stain or glaze I can get to do this, or will a normal wood stain work, and how would i go about doing this?

If there is any finish on the wood now, stain will not work. You need raw wood/veneer to accept stain. You can use tinted polyurathane to go over the old finish. This will alter the color some. Multiple coats will change the color more. It is real important to apply even coats so the finish product will be even in color.
