I had a leaky flapper that I've replaced - several times. But none of the new ones seem to be sealing the rim of the tank drain. I've tried 4 or 5 new ones, all to no avail. The flapper type seems to be correct and fits as it should. Any ideas and help will be much appreciated.

The flapper seats on the mating piece in the bottom of the tank. See if there are any imperfections in it. I think they have replacements for them or one's that go right over them.

Hello, A possible reason for the toilet to leak is because the overflow
hose from the ballcock goes to far down into the overflow tube and the
pressure of the water prevents the flapper from seating properly.
Another reason could be with the hose to far down in the overflow
tube,it will siphon water out of the tank.
To check remove the hose from the overflowtube. If that was your
problem hook the hose to the top of the overflow tube.

I agree with the other answers here but I have a kicker. Mine did the same thing for 4 flappers. Found that it was a crack in the overflow tube at the bottom. The overflow tube should not be full of water after a flush. Good luck.

Thank you all for your helpful replies. The leak seems to have stopped.
1. I checked the mating piece at the bottom of the tank. The rim appeared to be, and felt, smooth and without imperfections.
2. The overflow hose was in fact going down to near the bottom of the overflow tube. It likely was siphoning water out. I pulled the hose out so that the end is now much closer to the top.
3. The overflow tube doesn't appear to be cracked as the water level inside it is near the bottom of the tube when the tank is full.
Step 2 seems to have done the trick (I think specifically because of Woodbutcher's second reason). I had never considered the overflow mechanism and that it might be causing a leak. FYI - the leak was very slow, slower than before I replaced the original bad flapper.
Thanks again gentlemen!
