I am having a hard time finding a curtain rod pole that is 1/4 inch in diameter, and 12 ft long. The longest I've found in places like Linens n Things, Home Depot and Target are 8 ft. I need this to go in as a back rod of my double brackets to hold a sheer panel. I've even considered wooden dowels which I can paint, but even those are only4 ft. each. Copper tubes in Home Depot are only 10ft long.

I am hoping to find an inexpensive solution, and not have to buy a whole set of curtain rods + hardware if all I need is just the rod.

Thank you for any help or tips you may share.

1/4"???? can't it be larger than that? most curtain rod pockets accommodate at least a 1" rod.

but the longest i could find ANY rod was 120".

go to a drapery department and ask the people working there about rods for extra wide windows. you don't necessarily have to buy them there, but they'll explain how it will work.

Ask a metal dealer for 1/4" (solid) steel round, cut to 12'. This stuff is everywhere, and not expensive unless packaged up as speciality hardware. Engineers may even call 1/4" rod "wire"; see the suspension bridge. HD stocks it in their metal rack, up to 6' lengths if I remember right. HD stickers crazy numbers on utility metal though. Better the metal dealer.

You would have to clean the oil off this, prime it and paint it.

How about PVC rod with a coupler to join the two pieces?

I just found exactly what you are looking for. Go to www.mcmaster.com and search for metal rods. Then select the stainless steel option and they have 12' rods that are 1/4 inch in diameter for $12.20!
