Rookie here, needing advice…
My 1956 “vintage” countertops are nailed down to the base and then laminated over. My base is sanded and ready to stain. My “Plan A” was to remove the counter entirely. Is that still a possibility without destroying the base?

“Plan B”: I will be installing a preformed laminate countertop and plan to block it ¾”. Is it feasible to use the old ¾ inch counter as a “block” plank? To do this I would need to cut the old counter back from the front lip (approx. ¾”) in order to fit the new counter over the old. (Basically, my old counter, as a block plank is too deep). How would I make such a cut as to not damage the base?
