I just purchased a pale green jute rug that covers most of my living room floor. People walk through a lot and it's starting to look dirty. No major stains, just shoe scum... any advice on how to spot clean or keep it looking good?

The best way to clean jute rugs is a low moisture approach. As regular "steam" cleaning will cause the backing of the rug to expand. Since the rug has nothing to hold it down and prevent this. AS the rug dries it will remain wavy or buckeled. I would suggest taking it to a dry cleaner and doing it that way or contact a carpet cleaning professional as many offer this service.

If rug is natural jute, it is constructed with plant fibers. Water-based cleaning methods are not recommended. Perhaps a 'dry' carpet cleaner would be helpful.
