I asked to guys to come in to do estimate for the installation of natural hardwood maple 2 1/4" x 3/4" @ 600 sq ft. Both installer's price is almost the same however, installer A told me that they won't put to much nail or staple. They told me that it will be like floating. Installer B told me that installer A is not doing the proper installation. He was telling me that each hardwood strip should have a nail or staple.

I don't know which one I should go with. Please help asap.

Thanks,

V1rt

Installer A is a clueless HACK!! He worse then a thief! He cheats his clients out of a proper installation. Take the money and run.

I have little tiny magnets I use to detect the fastener schedule, when I do failure inspections. I see what installer A does, all the time and is the only reason I get called to go look at the failure. His lack of fasteners have let the flooring tent as it gain very little Moisture Content. :wall:

Installer B is correct. A fastener every 8" and no closer to the end, then 2" for strip flooring, and every 6" for plank flooring, with the same 2" from the ends to prevent spliting the tongue on the end. :thumbup:

Slightly confused here. So, you're saying no to floating for the guy with the maple flooring that they should use some sort of fastener.
In my scenario I'm buying engineered plank by Mannington, the two stores who quoted the work both said glue down. Should I insist on some fastening in addition to the gluing?? Going on stairs, too.
Or am I talking apples & oranges?? ;)

Apple= fasten down
Orange= gluedown

Apples=solid wood
Oranges= engineered

Yes, gluedown your engineered, if it over concrete
or you can float it over concrete.

Over wood, staple it down, or you can also float it. Not so with a solid. It is a fasten down only nails or staples.

Forgot to say to check with the engineered manufacturer before you try and float it. Some you cannot float, and some are gluedown only.
