I have finished my basement except for the installation of all my bifold doors - 6 to be exact. Carpeting is already down, but I did loosely tack the proper pieces of baseboard on all the jambs to allow for easy removal and re-insertion.

First: can the metal pivot pieces that gets tacked to the floor simpy sit on top of the carpet, or will I have to slit the carpet in order to put some sort of blocking under the carpet? My thinking is, without the blocking to pivot piece will sit too low.

Second: do the baseboard pieces that attach to the jamb get a u-shaped cut out of them or should it just be installed in 2 separate pieces. I have a closet on my top floor with a bifold and carpeting and it looked like the builder did the u-sahped cut on both sides.

The jamb, by the way, is simply finished in drywall.

Thanks...Mike

The metal pivot shoes usually screw to the jamb, not to the floor. So they can rest on the carpet without any problems. If you are running the base through the jamb and behind the door, you're going to have an awfully big gap along the sides of your bifold doors. I would return the base toward the door but stop it short of the metal pivot shoe.
