We've been in our house for almost a week now. Our house DESPERATELY needed new carpet, so when we moved from our apartment, we put everything in the garage until the carpet is installed. The carpet should be finished tomorrow.

Any suggestions for moving in!?!?!? lol Tackling that massive junk area (the garage) is frightening to me! We have two small children (a boy 3 and a girl 18 months), so we can't exactly spread things out or else... Well, they'd be even more spread out! I've been unpacking a few boxes a day in the kitchen, but it's just so discouraging when it's already packed (eat-in-kitchen) with a few other boxes and our clothes dressers (didn't want to leave those in the garage). So, I barely have any room. I have no pantry yet either so I'm using bottom cabinet space next to the stove and hopefully that will be enough. Some things are just too tall for the cabinets and shelves though.

I've also been keeping a box open to pitch things that I want to sell in a yard sale in. When I was packing, I did this too, but as I'm unpacking, I'm finding more since I can look at it and really say, "I don't want to put that away!!!" LoL

Sorry to ramble, but I'm just not motivated at all! Any advice/tips are appreciated. Thanks and God Bless!

You may need a better, or bigger, "staging area"
Your kitchen has been used as the unpacking place, but that's where some stuff has to go!
It's not a good choice
If the items are packed in the garage, and there is no room for a staging area there, you need to make one
A spare bedroom with no furniture slated for it,a dining room where stuff is already unpacked, a porch, or one of the best motivators (and my personal favorite), outside
Not many are tempted to leave 6 opened boxes unpacked on their lawn :)

Basically you bring one or two boxes at a time out of the storage area into the staging area

A staging area allows for a box to be opened and desicions made (what goes where, what gets chucked)
Boxes must be emptied before new ones are brought into the area

The staging area should be a place where stuff being unpacked doesn't have to go (like the kitchen)

This allows a daunting task to be broken down into smaller steps
Basically a series of smaller easier to reach goals

Something to consider...it works well for me
Good Luck!
You'll be settled in soon, don't worry...it'll happen!

Your idea for a "staging area" is a great idea. I'll just have to find a place to set it up! LoL Honestly, outside isn't an option for us. We live in Louisiana, and today the high is suppose to be 102 and a heat advisory on top of that! I think going in and out would just deplete my energy as it is! lol We don't really have a spare bedroom either. :( The kid's each have their own bedroom, we have a large living room but the kids will have access to it because it's just an open space basically, the master bedroom is not in a central location, and again, the eat-in kitchen... LoL Maybe I can put both kids in one of the rooms for now, and use the other one as the staging area... I dunno... We'll see. But I appreciate your advice very much! Now... if we can only get home and start unpacking instead of falling asleep! LoL

Thanks again!
