I read all the previous threads on wallpaper removal and I thought I would add this hint. It may not work in all instances or with all adhesives.

The wallpaper was installed over ten years ago. I was able to pull the outer face of the wallpaper from the wall which I sized with a Zinseer product before papering. What remained was a mix of adhesive and paper. I know that you have to keep it wet while trying to remove this residue and I thought of another process we do that needs to keep wet - shaving.

I wet the wall with a damp sponge and then smeared some cheap shaving cream over it in a fairly thin, almost invisible film. I waited about 4 - 5 minutes and scraped everything off with a plastic scraper. It also comes off fairly easy with a wet tile sponge.

the reason that method worked for you, is because of the damp sponge you used to moisten the paper in the first place. the shaving cream wasn't necessary. spraying liberally with hot water from a spray bottle works great, is cheaper & not as messy, and it stays wet plenty long enough to get the paper off.

Au contraire mon frere, the shaving cream is an old-timers technique. It retains the moisture, keeping it from evaporating.
