My new house is being framed as I write this. I have a Master Bedroom with a master Bathroom downstairs. My shower space is 80x36. My plan is to have 2 separate shower heads with at least 3 additional body sprays for each shower head. I also want to install a steam unit in the shower.

I would like to tile the complete shower, the floor, walls and ceiling. Picture a rectangle, you will walk into the shower through a glass door. The door will be located on the left end of a 80 inch long wall, on the left will be a 36 inch wide wall that will be a height of about 4 1/2 feet with glass above that. Outside that glass will be the Jacuzzi tub on the outside of the shower. below the glass in the shower will be the bench for the steam unit with the unit built into the bench, so the door will swing out. So as you walk in you will see the remaining of the 80 inch long wall to your right, then the wall goes 36 inches to the left and 80 inches to the left back toward the door.
I would like to put a stainless steel pan on the floor, put some kind of concrete material in the pan slainted to the middle to a drain. I would then put the tile on top of that.
For the walls I do not know what I should put on the walls under the tile. What is the best way to waterproof the walls under the tile? Any advice on this bathroom I would really apreceate.
Outside the shower I want to put a 6foot jacuzzi tub with a box and one step built around it with tile. I also want to tile the floors of the entire bathroom and halfway or all the way up the walls. I will also have a double sink and a toliet. What should go on the floor and the walls of the bathroom under the tile for the best waterproofing?

Thanks, Martin

Wonderboard, Durarock... lots of different names for water resistant masonry wall sheeting. $10 bucks for a 3 X 5 X 1/2inch sheet at the big box store down the road..... As mentioned, it is "water resistant"... not waterproof... you'll need a vapor barrier between the studs and the sheets - 4 -6 mil plastic sheeting works fine - or roofing paper. It won't degrade when exposed to water and provides an excellent substrate for tile installation. I believe most municipalities require it for code adherence these days....

For untiled areas in the bath - greenboard is a good choice. LIke plasterboard but with a water resistant covering instead of paper.... not much more expensive than regular wallboard

Not a pro..... just do lots of remodels.....
