Installing vent in new room of basement

I am just closing on a new home. There is a half-basement (house is on a slope) and I plan to finish the basement right away. The builder tells me the ductwork is accessible to drop a vent down. I've never done this but am a quick learner.

Any suggestions on where I could learn to do this? Or is this something that should be left to the experts?
