All of my outdoor door handles, light fixtures, kick plates are brass and they have some heavy varnish on them - I went out to HD and got something called "Brasso" and I have been rubbing on some pieces but it is taking FOREVER - is there any stronger stuff i should be using?

Brass likely has a lacquer finish. Finish will have to be removed with lacquer thinner to properly clean and polish the metal. Brass can be kept polished to maintain shine. Or, it can be relacquered to seal, but the process will have to be repeated when brass oxidizes again.
