We have a bathroom heat and light unit controlled by the normal light switch. We should be able to choose light only, heat only or heat and light together by a pully on the light unit itself. We have taken it down to clean it and paint the ceiling and have rewired it incorrectly. Now we can only have light only or heat only.
On the switch on the light unit itself, there are two light wires, two heat wires and two wires that lead to a small red light on the unit that indicate the heater is on. There are three positions on the switch.
We have one of the light wires in the righthand position and have tried one heat and one indicator switch in the lefthand position and all three in the middle position. We have also tried the three in the lefthand position and the heat and indicator in the middle.
Whatever we do we can only get heat only or light only. Can anyone help us come up with a solution.
Many thanks

There are many kinds of these fixtures, and the wiring diagrams vary. Your best bet is to obtain a new wiring diagram from the manufacturer, or you may find a wiring diagram on the fixture.
It won't help you, but your experience will help others be more careful about precisely recording the connections of things before they remove them.
