We have just removed a wall-to-wall carpet with an underlay in an old house with a rather uneven floor. It dips to the middle of the room and consists of old spruce boards. 1. Should I lay the floor on top of the 1/4 inch underlay?
2. Should I lay the flooring perpendicular or parallel to the sag?

you don't install laminate flooring on top of carpet pad OR uneven floors with dips.

Your substrate conditions, do not meet standards and specifications for a warrantable installation. It will fail, until you remedy the flatness of the substrate. :wall:
