Hi,

I just replaced my bathroom lighting fixture and realized that there is no electical box behind the wall. Basically the center of the fixture is in the middle of two studs, so I screwed the bracket into the studs and pulled the wires through the hole in the bracket and connected them. The wires sit between the fixture and the bracket. Basically the fixture is the same setup as the old one, but I wanted to see if the fact that the wires are not in a box is a problem. Thanks.

What you found is normal and common. Wall-mounted bathroom vanity fixtures typically use no box because the fixture itself provides a wiring compartment, and the fixture mounts to the wall, not a box.

Thanks John,

I was just concerned because the instructions said that it had to be secured to a hexagon box. I figured it would be fine but wanted to make sure.

If the instruction said it needs a box then you need a box. You didn't tell us that in the first post.

Basically, the fixture I put up was the same size as the old one. It's just a little heavier and is chrome instead of brass colored. Also, If there was a stud directly behind the middle of the fixture, I guess it would be easy to put a box in. But I'm nout sure the wires would reach if I put a box in attached to one of the studs.
