Hi, we just installed laminate in most of the upstairs of our house ourselves.
We would like to put laminate in our family room in our basement.
When we watched the installation video when doing our previous install it said not to install laminate in a room that has a drain in the floor.
My questions are...
Can I install laminate on concrete floor with a drain anyway?
If yes, How to go about it (cut hole for drain, or put flooring overtop)?
If no, What other flooring options can I use for this space?
Thanks so much for your help :)

i'm not a pro, but from what i've learned here, this i know:
if you're fine with voiding your warranty, go for it. is your floor even rated for installing in a below-grade area? most laminates aren't. also will void your warranty.
does the basement have water or moisture problems? most do. have you done the moisture test on the concrete? most of the pro's around here strongly discourage installing laminate below grade.
since there's a drain, the floor probably slants down from every wall toward the drain. if you install laminate on an uneven surface, it will fail.
read back 2 or 3 pages and see all the posts regarding installing laminate in basements. you'll quickly get the idea.

If there was ever enough water around for the drain to be useful,
your floor would be ruined.
Ceramic Tile, Vinyl tiles, sheet vinyl, Cheap carpet, indoor/outdoor carpet, painted concrete. that's all I got off the top of my head.

Decorative staining... You can also score the concrete to give it a custom look.
