Hello,
I would very much appreciate any assistance I can get. I am currently assembling a clothing chest and have to remove a screw from one of the parts because I put it in incorrectly. I am now unable to remove the screw. I've tried removing it manually and with my power screwdriver. I have been working on this off and on for the past three or four days. At this point I don't know what to do and how to get it out, and it's an integral part of the chest (the runners that the drawer rests on). Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do? Thank you for your help!

Why won't the screw come out? Is the head stripped and your screwdriver is just spinning in the screw? Is the screw in too tight and your screwdriver won't turn at all? Something else? There are lots of possibilities and the fix is determined by type of problem.

If the screw is just spinning - use something to pry the screw up as you turn it.
If the screw head is stripped try to get a hold on it with a visegrips and turn it with the visegrips.
If neither of these work you can drill it out, pull it out like a nail or cut the head off with a chisel and leave it.

If the screw head is stripped, cut a slot in the head with a dremmel & cut-off wheel. This allows use of a slot screwdriver.

The new slot can also be cut (slowly) with a hacksaw blade, preferably a broken one.

You might consider just prying the part off so the screw head drags through it and leaves a big hole. Then re-fasten it some other way. Depends on the part.

To drive or extract screws, better use a manual screwdriver unless there's little resistance and speed is paramount. Powered drivers can't deliver more torque than you can (or they'd spin you 'round when the screw stops!), and they easily wreck the screw head so extraction is a pain.

If the screw simply spins, try inserting a thin edge under the head down toward the threads. The screw should lift a bit as the head rides over the thin edge. With any luck, the threads should catch the edge and lift the screw out as it turns.
