Hi all, I am a new homeowner and am wanting to sew new draperies for my living room window. The window is 150" wide and my objective is to find a window treatment that I can open during the day ( I like the sunlight) but close at night for privacy. I was thinking about sewing pocket rod draperies because they seemed fairly easy and I understand they should be 2-3 times the width of the window. My concern is: will pocket rod drapes be difficult to open/ close since I will open and close them every day? If I make them at 2-3 times the width of the window, will they bunch up on the rod and look silly when I open them? I thought about using tie-backs but they seem very formal.

Or should I consider using a rod with rings at the top?

Thanks for any advice! :)

for ease of opening, since you'll be opening them daily, i'd definitely use rings. and because your window is so wide (12 1/2 feet!), you'll be needing several support brackets, so you'll need to look for C rings, not O rings, so they'll clear the brackets.

this will take a TON of fabric! go 2.5 to 3 times fullness. and be sure to line them. no sense in going to all this trouble and not have them hang nicely and last a while.

good luck!

Thanks so much Annette! You were right about the amount of fabric. I went to the store and had to pick up bolt after bolt after bolt.....fortunately they had tons of the fabric I wanted!
