View Full Version : Cabinets over floating laminate?

I am installing new kitchen cabinets and a floating laminate floor. I've read that the flooring needs to be installed under movable appliances and cabinets should not be screwed to the sub-floor through a floating floor. My question is should the flooring be installed under the cabinets at all? The project is not started so all options are open. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Cabinets first. Laminate needs to float.

I too am starting with a clean floor. I was thinking that if I 'just' do, "Cabinets first. Laminate needs to float." the floor will be uneven. As every picture I see shows floating floors with sofa, TV center, Tables, Hutchs, etc. ontop why not?

I could place the planks under the cabinets, cut off edges as act 'as if' that was the back wall and 'float' from that point on, however, what about the Ref, Stove, Dishwasher.

Confused... :wall:

I am also thinking about doing the dinningroom if this turns out as great as it seems, however, Tables, Hutchs, etc. ontop now rasies the same issue...

Regards,

David

David, that is what expansion trim molding is for.

The weight of a loaded cabinet along one side is not bad, as long as nothing is anchored through the flooring, trapping it.

But don't put 2 heavy cabinets, opposite of each other. No matter what!

That goes for some heavy bookcases opposite each other in the room.
