I am installing some architectural hinges on a door. (The pin can go in from either end so this is not left vs right opening hinge question.) The hinges are 5 Knuckled, i.e., 3 on one leaf and 2 on the other. Which leaf goes where? That is, does the 3 knuckle leaf go on the door or on the jamb? And if it makes a difference, Why?

left vs right (3 leaves vs 2) is immaterial on butt hinges.
The pin will fall out unless it is inserted from the top.
