I have a outdoor post lantern from the home I grew up in, and I'm planning to install it as an interior floor lamp in the rec room of a new home. I'm asking if anyone has any experience with this and advice for the best way to proceed.

Get a smithy to make a stand for it.
For the electrical, get enough 3 wire SVT or SJTW cord to run up the column and have at least 6 ft from the bottom free to plug in, and get a 3 prong plug for it.
You need to find some way to prevent the cord from getting pulled, so and pull pulls on the cord, not the electrical connections. For the switch, you can probably use a toggle switch with leads. You will ground the netal parts of the lamp with the ground wire in the 3 wire cord.
