i have a magic chef gas wall oven (model is
presently unavailable) which has electric
controls. it doesn't heat up properly, i checked the temperature with a probe on a multi meter, it heats up to about 150 deg below the temperature setting. can you tell me what the possible problems are and what tests to perform on the suspect components

Hi:tquinn
About the only thing you can do is be sure the capillary tube is in it's correct location in the oven compartment.
It's a tube you'll see in the oven at the top. It should be held in place with two small clips. It should not be touching anything except those two clips.
Handle it very carefully! They become brittle with age and break easy.
That tube is attached to the thermostat and senses the temperature. If it's that far off the true temperature, it is most likely defective and will not be able to be adjusted. <Calibrated>
I would highly suggest that you have a qualified service rep verify the temperature before replacing the thermostat. If it's not really that far off <more then 50 degress> the thermostat can be recalibrated.
Check with your local gas utility company if this in home service <oven calibration> is available in your area.
Good Luck,
