We are going to use the Schluter-Ditra membrane prior to installing out travetine tiles. The travertine tiles we picked out are filled and polished on one side.
My question is - Do I need to "butter" the tiles prior to setting them? I would think that the thin set we applied on top of the membrane would take care of that. My wife thinks the porous areas would be too week??????

Thanks
Dave

First, what type of floor is under the Ditra?:)

If tile is larger than 13", you spread the thinset on the floor with the flat side, then the notched side and backbutter the tile with the flat side of the trowel before setting them.:)

Use at least a 1/4 X 3/8" notch trowel.:)
