What are the “rules” about the frequency of changing the “50:1 oil/gas” mixture for a 2-stroke engine? I’ve heard many different things from people like it shouldn’t be used if its been in a fuel can for more than 2 weeks, 1 month, the summer season, etc. Also I have heard that the fuel can should not be left in the sun, or any HOT area for any length of time, because the chemical composition of the unleaded gas and the 2-stroke oil will be affected. Especially the gas used here in California.

I live in Texas. I have outboards that run oil/gas mix, weedeaters, chain saws, and so on. I use all these motors year round so I would say the longest I have a oil/gas mix sitting in the jug is 1week and that probably would be the weed eater gas can and during the season when once a week weedeating does it. If your worried the gas is sitting to long add some of that stuff that is made especially for that. Sorry I forgett what it's called at the moment.

stabil, or optimol's brand called "optimizer. any brand name " fuel stabilizer" will work. rule of thumb is to mix no more than you can use in 3 weeks. although i have used stabilized mix that was two months old with no problems
