I am installing a ceramic tile floor in my kitchen. The original sub floor is exposed. (The previous owner had plywood and vinyl tile over the original floor) My question is should I apply a self leveling compound and then cement backerboard on top before I apply the cement tile?

What's this floor made up of now?:)

It is down to the original floor that was installed when the house was built.
It looks like brown backerboard (not cement) a few pieces of very thin tile (maybe commerical) and a lot of staples.

This has to be removed, then let us know what's under that.:)
