Planning on a new kitchen cabinet install. I will be laying down Pergo or some other laminate floating floor, so am I correct in assuming I need to build up the cabinets, in order to allow room for the floor to 'float'? Otherwise, the floor would be butted up against the trim of the toe kick. I would think this would not be the cleanest look anyway, but may be detrimental to the floor.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

With floating floors, the cabinets always go down first and the floor is cut around the cabinets with 1/4" gap. That gap is covered with a standard shoe molding provided by the cabinet company.

but wouldn't I need to build up the cabinets? If the cabinets sit directly on the floor, I'd have to rip the molding to make it the right width, I think?

If the toe kick is already in place, just lay flooring up to it, leaving the 1/4 to 1/2 " gap as required by the flooring manufacturer. Then cover that gap with quarter round. If the cabinets are in place but the toe kick is not, just lay the flooring and the toe kick will cover the gap you leave.
