In my parents house (built in the 50s) there are no visible face nails near the wall... to me this would mean they blind nailed all but the last row and covered those nails with trim. How do you manage to get the one row prior to the last blind nailed? Very tight area to swing a hammer.

Fewer nails were generally used then and most likely they did a better job of hiding them with matching filler. Look closer in the spring growth.
