I recently installed ceramic tiles on a basement slab and now want to install marble in a foyer on top of wood.

What are the main differences that I need to know between what I expreienced with ceramic and the marble?

The foyer has marble in it already that I will rip up prior to installing new marble.

Thanks.

If a wood floor, it needs almost twice the strength, than it does for Ceramic, tell us a little about the floor, joist size, spacing, length of unsupported span, subfloor there now, how many layers, how thick and what is it?:)

You don't want any lippage with marble, you want a tight joint, 1/16 to 1/8" joints and use un-sanded grout, then seal it all.:)

I am not sure what type of floor is under the current marble tiles. I would guess that it is plywood but it has marble on it right now, I think the floor joists are 16 inches apart. Does it need to be stronger because the marble weighs a lot more?
