Because my house is 28 yrs old there is some settling and I thought that Bona Traffic in Satin would be a good choice because it wouldn't have the sheen showing the uneveness of the subfloor (its not that bad really) so here is what the installer proposed one coat of sealer and two coats of traffic. Is two coats of traffic sufficient? I know the traffic is probably overkill for a house with two adults and two cats, but I just want to minimize the 'refresh' coat in wear areas to a minimum. Even if its a one day process for the refresh coat, moving all the furniture out and back in on two floors is something I dont want to do often, like nothing more frequent than every 5 years. Also would it be more durable to go with 3 finish coats of Mega vs. 2 finish coats of traffic?
Finally, since I'm using 5" hickory I have been advised by some that I should glue and staple, my only concern is that when I pulled up the parquet flooring it had a black type of glue and it was very brittle and came up very easily. I'm concerned that if I glue down the hickory that over time the glue will become brittle and break and creak when walked on, is this true? If not, waht are the brands of glue of that you recommend?

Number coats of sealer and drying times between coats and cure time before moving furniture tends to be very manufacturer specific. Find out the brand and read labels or contact manufacturer. Frequency of recoating is dependent upon such variables as proper maintenance and protection of floor. For instance, the Japanese refinish residential floors approximately every 200 years. Of course, they do not wear shoes indoors.
Subfloor should be clean and flat for hardwood installation. Some manufacturers recommend using both urethane adhesive and nailing on wider plank floors. Following wood flooring manufacturer's instructions for subfloor prep, acclimation, moisture testing of both wood and subfloor, addressing any moisture problems beneath and around structure, installation, maintenance of temperature and humidity, as well as care and maintenance should guarantee a successful floor.
