the chrome (?) metal that is the frame for our kitchen chairs is spotted. I tried to remove the spots with 409. The spots remain. Does anyone have any suggestions what to use?
The spots look like water stains.

I would be hesitant to use a solvent here because I am unsure what it would do to the finish. If it is water stains, I've had good luck with the Mr. Clean magic eraser for water spots in the shower.

Spots on chrome may be removed with chrome polish from auto store. If chrome is pitted and etched from corrosion, these marks tend to be permanent. Keeping chrome clean and sealed with chrome polish will tend to keep spotting and corrosion at bay.
